Summer is now over.
The long summer nights of children playing outside and sipping rosé on the porch are replaced with something else.
As we move into x fall, it is time to take stock of our achievements, reap the fruits of our efforts. We soon begin the journey inwards, to a slower and more contemplative pace.
Natures colour contrasts become softer. The bright contrast of the Poppy in the field is replaced by the harmony of the autumnal forest.
This collection is based on the warm colours and soft shapes of this season.
HARVEST MOON 01/10/20
Nieuwe maan Nieuw begin
Wij gebruikten de laatste maanden om een inventaris te maken van wat wij echt belangrijk vinden.
Een intens moeilijke periode kan ook een opportuniteit zijn om te zien wat stand houdt.
Wat onze plaats is in het grote geheel.
De ratrace hield even halt.
New Moon New beginnings
We used the last few months to take stock of what is really important to us.
A crisis can be an opportunity to see what holds up in the storm.
The ratrace came to a halt. We had a time to look at ourselves and we were not happy with what we saw. Too often we had taken the easy way out, left loose ends, made half hearted choices. Before you know it you have a chaotic Pinterestboard full of organising hacks and a house full of clutter.
This crisis offers us the possibility to make new choices.
Invest your time in what is good for you, even when that is the hard thing to do.
This collection is based on the New moon and New possibilities.
When all of this started I, and many with me, were petrified with fear and astonishment.
Watching TV all day, looking for that newsfeed that would give us a way out of this. News that didn’t come.
Meanwhile we are 7 weeks into lockdown and we have frozen time. We have cut a block out of the time line and set it aside for a while.
On my travels I visited the Petrified Forest in Namibia. These Giant trees scattered in the desert, frozen in time made a huge impression on me. The idea that a disaster in prehistoric times left us with this beauty.
Maybe when we look back at this we will find rare beauty in this.
After all you know what they say : ‘A diamond is just a piece of coal that did well under pressure.’
This collection is inspired by that idea.
Holidays are over, I’m ready for Summer now!
Let’s skip dreary February and March and just fast forward to the first sunny days of April.
But there is a silver lining to the misery: We can finally give in to the drama!
Go on- light the fire, listen to that blues playlist, open that expensive bottle of red wine and wallow in your misery. The good thing about the long winter evenings is that we can we close the curtains early, pull up the drawbridge and hide away from the world.
Soon spring will be here and we won’t have time to indulge in melancholy anymore.
PS While you’re here, have a look at the new collection.
The party I missed!
My friends from all over the world met up for a Big Birthday party in Berlin. Work and other obligations made it impossible for me to join them. But they kept me in the loop with their whats app stories. I can’t believe I missed all that!
Berlin is an exciting mix of history and modern, Cold War aesthetic and Art Nouveau complement each other. There is a lively art scene, lots of creativity in independent shops and restaurants.
A vibrant city, a bit rough on the edges, but never boring.
I was so sad that I couldn’t join them on their explorations but instead I did the next best thing:
I designed a new collection inspired by their photos.
Meanwhile I’m planning my next citytrip.
Thanks Maeve and Lizzy for the lovely photos! X
No doubt anyone who has spend some time in France visited one of the country’s famous Food markets.
Rows of stalls packed with seasonal vegetables, delicious cheeses, flowers and wine. French markets are a great way to sample French Lifestyle at its best.
One of my favorite stalls is the herbs and spices stall. Even when in France its colours and scents have the power to take me away on a voyage to faraway places.
The colours of cumin, coriander, cinnamon, and paprika inspired me to make the collection Zanzibar.
Making a statement isn’t the same as being Loud.
The bigger the better is the trend but I don’t follow that rule. To be honest, there aren’t many rules that I follow at all.
I think the shape of your face and of your ear lobe, your personal taste and especialy your mood should determine what kind of earrings you choose.
Les petites are a range of smaller modern and minimalist earrings.
In my designs I have always been drawn to natural forms. I pay attention to natural shapes, such as bones, leafs and pebbles and i use these in my work. Even when I use geometrical forms I aim to make them so that they are not rigid. I try to add life to each piece.
This is about power without being loud.
About elegance not about ornament. It is about Simplicity with Character.
All true elegance is effortless.
I hope you like them.
I’m sure you’ll find some to match your personality.
